The Southold Chronicles: A Cover Reveal

The dream to write a novel about Mary Horton began in Southold, Long Island, 1999. I flew to the east coast with my mother, Helen Horton Worley, to visit the lighthouse named after her eighth great-Image of Rebecca DeMarinograndfather, Barnabas. He was a widower when he came from England in the 1600’s, via Massachusetts, to Southold with his two little boys and a young wife named Mary.

When my mother and I arrived more than three hundred years later, Horton Point Lighthouse – commissioned by George Washington in the 1700’s and built in the 1800’s – stood on land that Barnabas had once owned. And we found Southold’s library, historical society, and genealogies contained much information about Barnabas, but not so much about Mary, my ninth great-grandmother. I wondered about her motivations, her desires, and longings and if she missed the family she left behind. I began writing the novel in 2008.

My novel dream came true a couple of years ago when my debut novel was published as historical romance by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. A Place in His Heart is book #1 of The Southold Chronicles three-book series! Last year, book two ~ To Capture Her Heart ~ released, and today I’m thrilled to share that book three ~ To Follow Her Heart ~  releases this coming July 19th!

While my heroines in the first two books were based on real women, in To Follow Her Heart my heroine is the fictitious Patience Terry – the young girl from book #1 who comes to New England with the Hortons on the little ship called The Swallow. I fell in love with her, and so did my readers, so the time has come to tell her story.

And without further ado, I celebrate the release of To Follow Her Heart, book #3 of The Southold Chronicles with the beautiful cover from Revell ~ I love it and I hope you do, too!! You can purchase the trade paperback at the pre-order price of $9.93 (that’s a $5.06 savings!) by clicking here

To Follow Her Hearty by Rebecca DeMarino

To Follow Her Heart

Duty and love are powerful forces. Only one has the power to make her life complete.

It is 1664 and Patience Terry is devastated to learn that Captain Jeremy Horton’s ship has been shipwrecked off the coast of Barbados. There were no survivors. She had hoped that Jeremy would someday give up the sea and settle down with her in Southold, Long Island.

Unaware his memorial service is being planned, Jeremy sails aboard a British warship with secret orders to attack New Amsterdam and claim it for the British Crown. When he makes his surprise return to Southold—and to an overjoyed Patience—it’s not quite the happily-ever-after his beloved had hoped for.

With a finely tuned sense for authentic historical characters and settings, Rebecca DeMarino plunges you into a world of tall ships, daring journeys, and yearning hearts.

“A masterful weaver of history and heritage, Rebecca DeMarino laces tender love stories with vibrant threads of history and hope, wooing the heart and waking the soul in this rich New World saga.” Julie Lessman, award-winning author of The Daughters of Boston, Winds of Change, and Heart of San Francisco series.

  23. It’s beautiful, Rebecca!! Of course, all of them for this series have been, so that’s no surprise. =) But I really love how the colors play on each other here, with the golden sky and their blond hair, then the pop of her dress and the boldness of his jacket. (Yes, the cover designer in me is sighing in bliss, LOL). Congrats on the book!!!!
